 Santa Clara Pottery, unsigned

Add a striking architectural element to your space with this classic, mid-sized Southwestern blackware pottery olla. Hand-coiled and shaped into a traditional melon-ribbed form, this vessel exemplifies the timeless artistry indigenous to the Northern Tewa Pueblos (Santa Clara and San Ildefonso) of New Mexico.
The captivating gunmetal finish is entirely natural—achieved by meticulously stone-polishing the clay surface by hand before firing it in a traditional open-air reduction atmosphere, which forces carbon deep into the clay. While this piece is unsigned—characteristic of many mid-century market wares created during the Southwestern tourism boom—its exceptional symmetry, pristine condition, and rich, deep sheen make it an absolute standout for any curated modern, minimalist, or rustic interior.
Dimensions: 5.5” H x 7”

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Flawless with no chips, cracks, or surface scuffs.
Care & Styling Instructions:
  • Decorative Use Only: Because traditional Pueblo pottery is unglazed and fired at low temperatures, this piece is not waterproof. Do not put water or live flowers directly into the pot, as moisture will seep through the porous clay and permanently damage the stone-polished finish.
  • Styling Tip: This jar is perfect for displaying dry botanicals, pampas grass, and faux florals. If you wish to use live flowers, you must place a small glass or plastic liner inside the vessel to completely contain the water.
  • Cleaning: Dust gently with a dry, microfiber cloth. Avoid water, detergents, or polishing chemicals.
